October Theme Ideas
Obviously, we are WELL into October and just about into November. It is a BUSY month full of birthdays in our family! There can be so many fun topics for each month so sometimes I'll share several. Here are a few that we will include or already have included in our learning.
Family and Friends
Unity, Belonging, Love, Friendship
Unity, Belonging, Love, Friendship

The "Family and Friends" unit naturally follows the "All About Me" unit (IMO. ;) Like the "All About Me" theme, there are many ideas you can implement here. The goal here is to help your child learn the importance of family (and friends). Look through photo albums, draw a family picture or cut faces out of a magazine to represent each family member ( something I remember doing and loving SO many years ago), and of course spend time as a family doing some favorite activities! You will always be a part of your family!
For the friends theme you could host some virtual play dates (if you're like us and are still trying to be careful-we have had a zoom birthday party for each of our kids this fall and they have loved seeing their friends!), host some masked play-dates if you're comfortable with that and of course talk about ways to be a good friend and teach some simple manners and social skills and role-play scenarios. Friendships are so important!
Halloween

Traditions, Fun, Family, Friends

Of course you can't leave out Halloween this month! In our study of letters,we are currently learning the letters G and H. I love when the letters and themes align. ;) How about some Glittery Ghosts (we made some Green Glitter Ghosts and even happened to use a Gluestick for that project! Ha! There are also many fun Halloween projects that can be found online to go along with learning letter H!

Harvest
Hard work, Responsibility, Care, Nutrition, Health

We live with family and my parents have a wonderful garden and orchard. My children are familiar with planting, caring for, and harvesting vegetables and fruits and I am so thankful for that, all thanks to their awesome grandparents! Find a local orchard or garden or pick some fruit from your own yard! My children are always eager to help harvest. This is a great time to talk about nutrition and healthy foods while they are already showing an interest in the process! Have your child help prepare some snacks or simple dishes with you with the food they helped pick.
